Potter’s wheel

A day making bowls and vases in a Tokyo based ceramics studio.

My friend Yoshiko and I spent an afternoon learning how to use the potters wheel. It wasn’t exactly a-Patrick-Swayze-style experience but a rather  meditative one. Except for those panic laughter moments followed by cries for help to our Sensei. It was real fun, I’d love to do that again.

Here are some of our pieces just after making them. And the prove that we were even wearing a traditional Japanese Samue. The only down side of the hole experience is having to wait afterwards, we had to let our preciously crooked bowls drying for weeks before they could be fired.

I decided to choose my favorite one and glaze it pink for a change, and this is how it looks!
